Humics & Fulvics in Action 🌱⚙️
How to Apply, When to Apply, and What to Expect

In this episode, Ryan Gibbs breaks down the real-world application of humic and fulvic acids and how they support microbial life in the soil—especially when dealing with tough conditions like salt issues or high aluminum levels.

🧪 1. How to Apply
It starts with your goals and soil type.

Dry Humate (Granular):
Great for low CEC, salt-heavy, or tight soils. Improves oxygen penetration and feeds biology.

12% Liquid Humic:
Best used with nitrogen up front (32%, 28%, thiosulfate). Do not mix with herbicides.

Fulvic Acid:
Works later in the season with side dress, in-furrow, foliar, or herbicide passes. Actually enhances herbicide efficiency (like glyphosate)—unlike humics, which should never be mixed with herbicides.

📊 2. Application Rates & Timing
Dry Humate:
25–200 lbs/acre depending on your soil needs.

12% Liquid Humic:

General: ½–2 oz per lb of nitrogen

Wheat topdress: 2 oz per lb N

In-furrow starter: 1–2 pints/acre

Fulvic Acid:
1–2 oz/acre is enough due to its high concentration.

🔁 3. How Often?
Dry Humate:

Normal soils: 100 lbs/acre every other year

Light soils: Apply 2 years in a row, then skip a year

12% Humic & Fulvic:
Small amounts every year with other fertilizers or herbicides = best ROI

💡 Small rates, big results. You don’t need high-dollar passes to see a difference—just consistent support for the biology that makes your field productive.
