12MP IMX477 Arducam camera with 8-50mm Arducam Lens zoom demo

picamera2 works on 32bit as well.

Dimensions
- wall is 63" away from front of camera lens
- the blinds are about 3" wide each
- the blinds are almost 3" away from the wall

So effectively the blinds were 60" away. According to a Google search, to calculate the zoom factor you divide eg. 50/8 so 4x zoom. I think that's right in this case... 8 blinds, zoom in all the way, 2... this might be obvious but not for me... I'm trying to figure out how to translate that for expected object size at some distance...

There is something with regard to the sensor size, I'm aware if you use say a cropped-sensor vs. full frame with the same lens, you'll get "extra zoom". I measured the pixels of the blinds (zoomed out vs. zoomed in) got 32/183 so it's about 5.7 zoom... idk what this means right now. I gotta learn about focal length more.

The lens and camera weighs 6.5oz, 8.2oz with the Pi4.

I am using a Raspberry Pi 4 with Raspberry Pi OS Lite (64-bit) Debian Bullseye.

I kept the legacy camera off... had to edit/add a line in /boot/config.txt as per the manual.

There are different scenarios so just check the manual.

After that I was able to run this demo live-stream code.

I shot this on auto with manual focus, my bad need to dial in the aperture/iso for better in-focus range.

It's funny this zoom might not be good enough for my project, as even 200mm was not far enough... oh well. I'll still build it and will post it on this channel in the future... it will be "in season" when spring comes so I'm pumped. I need to finish my other projects... this project involves hardware design/3D printing/software writing... it's gonna take me a few weeks to do.
