Have you ever seen a car crash in slow motion? That's basically what it's like to watch Ron Atkinson play football. He’s said to be the worst footballer, the biggest racist, and the biggest trainwreck. Or was he? Let’s go back in history and find the ugly truth once and for all!

Born on March 18, 1939, in Liverpool, Ron grew up with his brother Graham, who also became a pro footballer. Their early years were in Liverpool's Old Swan area, but they later moved to Shard End, near Birmingham, where Ron went to Lea Village Secondary School. It was exactly at this place and time where his love for football really started to take off. But was it worth it? Well, it’s debatable.
He first dipped his toes into the football world as a ground staff boy at Wolverhampton Wanderers, but very soon by 17, he’d moved to Aston Villa, coming from a local team called BSA Tools. Sadly, he never cracked into Villa’s first team, but he always spoke highly of Jimmy Hogan, a coach there who deeply influenced him.
And then came 1959, the year that saw real growth!
