What is economics? (for high school students)

If you're a high school student about to study economics -- or in the middle of studying economics -- you might be asking yourself: What even is economics?

What's economics all about?

Let’s start by asking a different question: what is an economy? An economy is a way of organising society.

An economy is also where we make tough choices on what to produce and what NOT to produce (this is the issue of scarcity).

Economics is all about how we make choices to produce the goods and services societies require. This is the core principle we focus on in the study of economics.
