In 1995, Industrial Light & Magic built just 36 full Stormtrooper costumes to accompany Darth Vader on a global promotional tour for the final non-Special Edition release of the original Star Wars trilogy on VHS. Designed to fit neatly into custom touring road cases, these suits became the face of the campaign—appearing at events worldwide as two Stormtroopers flanked the Dark Lord himself, commanding attention wherever they marched.

This particular ensemble—complete with helmet, undersuit, armor, blaster, boots (sizes 9 & 11), original packing list, “Character Appearance User’s Guide,” and its rugged touring case—didn’t retire quietly. In 1999, it returned to the spotlight for a Late Show with David Letterman skit spoofing The Phantom Menace, accompanied by a playful handwritten thank-you: “Thanks so much!!! XX Late Show.”

Also included: a sealed 1995 VHS box set of the trilogy, just as it was originally released.
