Paediatric Head Injury Types and Treatment|குழந்தைகளுக்கு ஏற்படும் தலை காயம்|Dr Hariharasudhan
Today's topic is head injuries in children. Symptoms of a head injury include loss of consciousness, severe headache, epilepsy, unequal pupil size, vomiting, and mobility issues. When a child experiences these symptoms, it is important to consult a neurologist and undergo a CT scan to assess the extent of the injury. Treatment options vary depending on the specific condition. Seizures can be managed with medication, while hemorrhages may require surgery or medication. Fractures may or may not require surgical intervention. Children with mild symptoms may be observed for 24 hours, and if no further complications arise, they can be cared for at home. It is important to note that children's brains are better equipped to handle injuries compared to adults, especially those under two years old, as their fibrous bones provide added protection. If there is swelling in the upper part of the head after a fall, immediate medical attention is advised.
