Numbers: a Quick Overview | Whiteboard Bible Study

Описание к видео Numbers: a Quick Overview | Whiteboard Bible Study

The book of Numbers tells the story of how and why the Israelites wandered through the wilderness for 40 years on their way to the promised land. It's the fourth installment in the Torah (the first five books of the Bible, traditionally attributed to Moses), and shows how the covenant God made with the nation of Israel cycled from the generation that left Egypt to a new generation.

In Exodus, God rescues the young nation of Israel from slavery in Egypt and makes a special alliance: He will be their God, and they will be his people. As their God, the Lord promises to protect them from enemies and bring them into a good land that he swore to their ancestors. As his people, the Israelites are to remain loyal to God (not worship anyone else) and treat other humans in a way that reflects God's nature.

Numbers gives us a fascinating look at how the ancient Jews saw God's dealings with human decisions. The people of Israel are not loyal to God, and don't trust him to hold up his end of the bargain (to provide for them and bring them safely to the promised land). They forfeit the land and plan to return to Egypt—but instead of allowing the Israelites to re-enslave themselves and their children, God keeps them in the wilderness for 40 years until a new generation can chose whether or not they will be loyal to him.
