This video showcases gameplay of A-VCS-tec Challenge, a homebrew title for the Atari 2600 inspired by the classic Aztec Challenge from the Commodore 64. Developed by Simon Quernhorst, known for Mental Kombat, this game delivers an intense historical action experience on 8-bit hardware.

Set in Tenochtitlán, the mighty Aztec capital ruled by Emperor Axayacatl, you play as a Zapotec warrior trying to escape to the coast after a lost battle. Alongside your two brothers, you must survive waves of spear-throwing warriors, deadly traps, and priests rolling massive stones down pyramid steps.

The game contains two main levels:
🔥 The Gauntlet – Run forward while avoiding spears and enemies.
🏺 The Pyramid – Climb to the top while dodging huge rolling stones.

A-VCS-tec Challenge features the memorable soundtrack from the Commodore 64 version, composed by Paul Slocum, and comes with a full-color manual and cartridge. It was released in both NTSC and PAL formats, each with different labels.

This gameplay footage highlights one of the most impressive and cinematic homebrew releases for the Atari 2600—combining fast reflexes, historical lore, and classic 8-bit challenge.
