The Employment Cost Index (ECI) is like a thermometer for how much businesses are paying their workers. It shows if salaries, wages, and benefits are going up or down. This helps us see if employees are getting more or less money over time and tells us about the job market.

TO CALCULATE IT
To figure out the ECI, researchers collect information from different jobs in various places. They look at how much money people get paid and the extra things like health insurance they get from their jobs. Then, they compare this money and benefits to how it was in the past. If the costs went up, the ECI number goes up, and if they went down, the number goes down. This helps us know if workers are getting paid more or less and helps businesses and others understand what's happening with pay and benefits.
