TRANSCRIPT
Owensboro, Kentucky is located on the south bank of the Ohio River between Louisville, Kentucky and Evansville, Indiana. With a population of 60,183, Owensboro is the county seat of Daviess County. Originally founded in 1797 as Yellow Banks, the name was changed to Owensborough, spelled with a ugh at the end, in 1817 and incorporated in 1850. In 1893, the name was shortened to it’s current spelling. Owensboro is the home of the Bluegrass Museum and Hall of Fame, which opened in 1981. In 2018, the facilities were moved to a newly constructed building on the banks of the Ohio River. The world’s largest sassafras tree is also located in Owensboro, one block south of the Daviess County Library on Frederica Street. Owensboro also has its fair share of famous sons and daughters. In the world of NASCAR, Owensboro was the birthplace and boyhood home to brothers Darrell and Michael Waltrip. Also born and raised in Owensboro is Actor Johnny Depp.
I’m Michael Miller. Let’s take a dash cam drive through downtown Owensboro Kentucky on Dash Cam Travels.
Our drive starts on New Hartford Road Kentucky route 2155 northbound. As we continue towards downtown, New Hartford Road turns into Breckenridge Street and then Leitchfield Road. We turn left onto 2nd Street and under the historic Owensboro Bridge as we enter Downtown. We turn right onto Daviess Street and left onto Veterans Boulevard where we stop to take our dogs on a riverside walk in Smothers Park. Once we’re back in the car, we continue on Veterans Boulevard and then take a left onto St. Ann Street. We get our first look at the Daviess County Courthouse as we turn onto 2nd Street. While on 2nd Street, we pass the Bluegrass Museum and Hall of Fame before turning left onto Walnut Street. We turn left onto 4th Street and then left onto Frederica Street. As we turn right onto 3rd Street, we see the Daviess County courthouse once again. Next, we take 2 rights onto Allen Street and then onto 5th Street. When we take our next left, we find ourselves again on Frederica Street, this time heading southbound. We travel though the campus of Brescia University. Next, we take a left on 9th Street and another left onto J.R. Miller Boulevard as we prepare to leave city. We continue north and cross the historic Owensboro Bridge over the Ohio River and enter Indiana as my wife and I continue our journey from Nashville Tennessee to French Lick, Indiana.
