The Experimental Animal Unit operates under the supervision of the National Institute of Health, Department of Medical Sciences, Ministry of Public Health. Its key responsibilities include:
1) Serving as the central laboratory system for experimental animals within the Department of Medical Sciences, in compliance with the Animals for Scientific Purposes Act 2015;
2) Providing testing services for medical devices and health products using experimental animals, backed by internationally certified laboratories and a team of expert researchers;
3) Supporting national quality control processes for vaccines, medicines, and health products used in humans to ensure their efficacy and safety ;
4) Diagnosing Botulinum toxin in experimental animals from patient samples ;
5) Conducting medical innovation research using experimental animals, as well as exploring alternatives to animal testing.
