In the first video of this series, we hear from Sonny Bireke, the creator and Chairman of The Refugee Initiative for Development. In this interview, he shares his prior struggles of trying to provide for his family and his subsequent motivation behind setting up this wonderful initiative.

His mission is to support the livelihoods and ambitions of people living in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement. The initiative promotes its members' businesses and encourages networking between members of the community who do not have enough funds or lack awareness of entrepreneurship. Together the group is working towards forming a local cooperative to better position themselves to receive loans from a variety of banks. They are hopeful that this will result in more refugees having the capital to start their own successful businesses.
