Orthodox Icon Painting step by step | Saint John the Baptist |

Описание к видео Orthodox Icon Painting step by step | Saint John the Baptist |

Painting Orthodox iconography can be challenging to get into, especially for a beginner. In this video I am painting an icon study based on a fresco originally painted by the legendary 16th century iconographer Theophanes the Cretan. Theophanes was a prolific iconographer, painter, and educator. The impact he and his family of highly skilled iconographers have had on the tradition that is Holy Orthodox Iconography can not be overstated. When it comes to Cretan iconography, Theophanes defines the aesthetic, and today I’m going to give you a look into the approach I took during some of my studies into the fresco technique of this incredibly blessed iconographer. I will also show you a great way to practice icon painting techniques as well as give you a run down of the materials I use when working on an icon study.
