Breath testing works by some very basic principles. Simplifying the science behind the breath test makes challenging the machine and the BAC (blood alcohol concentration) result understandable for both judges and juries in DWI cases. Watch my "How Breath Tests Work" Video before this one on the effect of mouth contamination on breath tests.

This video highlights how the breathalyzer tests can be higher due to mouth alcohol from different sources. Mouth contamination can come from many sources including: lip rings, tongue rings, and dentures. The mouth must be checked before every breath test for any of these and they must be removed. What if you partially regurgitate before the test? Contamination!
