Managing Codes, Categories of Codes & Thems in NVivo

Описание к видео Managing Codes, Categories of Codes & Thems in NVivo

Summary

The video discusses managing codes, categories, and themes in NVivo, emphasizing the importance of applying recognised data analysis methods. It covers the processes of coding, managing codes through iterations, and developing themes, providing insights into qualitative research methodology.

Highlights
[⚙️] Coding involves recognizing units of meaning in data and creating codes.
[🔍] Managing codes through cycles involves moving from descriptive to interpretive coding.
[📊] Developing themes entails identifying broad areas of analysis from categories.
Key Moments
Introduction00:08
The video addresses the process of managing codes, categories, and themes in NVivo, which is relevant for researchers at any stage of their project.
Training in NVivo involves applying recognised data analysis methods to the data, making it valuable for academic research and report writing.
Coding Data04:31
Coding involves recognizing units of meaning in text or media and assigning codes to represent those meanings.
The initial coding phase is descriptive, focusing on collating data without analysing it deeply.
Coding is a labor-intensive process that requires human input for interpretive coding, which AI tools cannot provide.
Managing Codes10:59
Managing codes involves iterating through cycles of coding, moving from descriptive to interpretive and finally researcher-led coding.
Categories are developed from codes, and themes are derived from categories, creating a hierarchical structure for data analysis.
The process of managing codes helps researchers organize and analyse data effectively.
Developing Themes16:00
Themes are broad areas of analysis derived from categories and represent underlying assumptions or concepts in the data.
Themes should be wrapped around central concepts and lead to discussions and further exploration of the data.
Mapping categories to themes creates a final thematic framework for analysis in NVivo.
Conclusion19:22
The video provides a comprehensive overview of how to manage codes, categories, and themes in NVivo for effective data analysis.

Audit Trail

Here is a link to a video demonstrating a completed audit trail. The data analysis method being demonstrated is Reflexive Thematic Analysis (RTA) but it could be applied to any method and almost all PhD or Doctoral level research projects require an audit trail as a means of demonstrating rigour in data analysis. while the video shows the various outputs, it does not demonstrate how to make such outputs because it would make the video extremely long; it is designed to give you some ideas as to what you may want to produce; however, the page I'm linking you to below, contains links beneath the video to other videos and resources mentioned in the video where they are demonstrated in practical terms should you wish to see those details: https://qdatraining.com/nvivo-audit-t...
