Taylor is one of the United States leading manufacturers of industrial forklifts and material handling equipment. Taylor has over 100 models ranging in lift capacity from 16,000 lbs to an astounding 120,000 lbs Taylor is known for heavy duty equipment and is the name for large forklift trucks.
Here is the backstory on the TEUs: In 1956 Malcom McLean revolutionized the industry by designing a standard, stackable metal box that could be moved seamlessly from a truck-to-ship. His first container ship, the SS Ideal-X, carried 58 containers on its maiden voyage.
Here is some history about the Taylor Machine Works: The Taylor Machine Works is a family-owned American manufacturer based in Louisville, Mississippi. The company began with timber equipment and has evolved into a global leader in the intermodal and port industries. In 1927 Taylor was founded in a small garage and the first major success with the "Logger's Dream" timber skidder in 1937. In 1952 the company entered the material handling field with the "Yardster" forklift that was designed for small sawmills. In the 1960s the "Big Red" was released. By 1968 the iconic "Big Red" branding was introduced to represent durability. By 1975 the Taylor company proved its capability for heavy lifting by unveiling a 120,000-lb lift truck which was the world's strongest forklift. The 1990s marked Taylor's definitive move into container handling as "intermodal" shipping (rail, truck, and ship). Taylor had become an industry standard. Taylor engineers developed specialized attachment systems for managing large containers, making the company a prime manufacturer for the intermodal freight industry. in 2019 Taylor unveiled the ZLC-Series, the world's first battery-electric container handler, at the Port of Los Angeles Between 2023 and 2024 Talor delivered its 50,000th machine and secured a 96 M U.S. Army contract for the Rough Terrain Container Handler Modernization program.
As of 2025, Taylor continues to lead in zero-emission technology, recently delivering five commercial battery-electric top handlers to Yusen Terminals at the Port of Los Angeles. This model features a Cummins QSB6.7L 225-HP Tier 4 final diesel engine and a 54.4 ft Ultra-view telescopic mast The Taylor XEC-155/6 is a high-performing model that a stacking height of up to 6 containers. The Taylor XEC 205/6 is a zero-emission electric model with a 20,000 lb capacity offering quiet operation & versatility for various yard operations.
Second are the Loaded Container Handlers: These handlers are engineered for the heaviest lifts because they can lift fully-loaded TEUs or ISO containers. The Taylor XLC-975 can stack containers 5-high and can lift up to 90,000 lbs. The Taylor ZLC-995 is an all-electric option with a 90,000 lb capacity featuring a Proterra NMC battery system designed for two full shifts of run time with a 5-hour charge time.

The third category of lift trucks is called Reach Stackers: The Taylor XRS-9972H1 offers the highest capacity in the range and it is capable of lifting up to 120,000 lbs. It features a Volvo 12.8L diesel engine and can stack up to 5 high. The Taylor XRS-8877 is equipped with a telescopic boom for stacking 5-high in the first row. It also has an 88,000 lb capacity and wet disc brakes.
