STORYLINE:
Thailand’s new prime minister made his first visit to the country's Government House on Thursday.

It came after his his royal endorsement on Wednesday evening.

Srettha Thavisin was greeted by outgoing leader Prayuth Chan-ocha, who stayed the view of journalists cameras. It isn’t known yet what the two men discussed.

The meeting ended after an hour, with Srettha sweeping out of the compound in a car.

The former real estate tycoon was elected to the prime minister’s position on Tuesday, after securing a comfortable majority of votes in a joint sitting of Thailand’s upper and lower houses.

He now heads an 11-party coalition which includes two military-aligned parties, a move he said during the election campaign would never happen.

He has since said their inclusion was necessary to end a three-month deadlock over forming a government.

Srettha’s election to the top post was overshadowed by the return to Thailand after 15 years of self-exile of ousted former leader Thaksin Shinawatra, on the same day.
