🌿 *1. “They sang a hymn…” — A calm before the storm*
After the Last Supper, Jesus and His disciples *sang a hymn**—almost certainly part of the *Hallel (Psalms 113–118), traditionally sung at Passover.

This is striking:
Jesus is hours away from betrayal, arrest, and crucifixion.
Yet He sings praise to the Father.
It shows His peace, obedience, and trust in God’s plan.

Then they walk out to the **Mount of Olives**, heading toward Gethsemane.

⚠️ *2. Jesus predicts their falling away*
Jesus tells them plainly:

“You will all fall away because of Me this night.”

He quotes **Zechariah 13:7**:
“I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.”

This shows:
Jesus’ arrest is not an accident—it fulfills prophecy.
The disciples’ failure is foreknown, not surprising.
Their scattering is temporary, not final.

But Jesus immediately adds hope:

“After I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.”

Even before they fail, He promises restoration.

Peter steps forward with confidence:

“Though they all fall away because of You, I will never fall away.”

Peter means it. His love is real.
But his *self-confidence* blinds him to his weakness.

Jesus responds with precise prophecy:

“This very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”

This is not a guess.
It is divine foreknowledge—down to the hour and the number of denials.

Peter insists:

“Even if I must die with You, I will not deny You.”

And Matthew adds:

“All the disciples said the same.”

This shows:
Their intentions were sincere.
Their courage was real—but limited.
Their spirit was willing, but their flesh was weak (as Jesus will soon say).
