This is the 2.0th edition of Digital Samvad where we try to spur discussion and draw lessons from the experience of our key resource persons and domain experts. We engage with the key stakeholders for conversation and dialogue to draw insights and acknowledge the principal way ahead to 'turn the sparks into a real opportunity for developing the digital ecosystem in Nepal’.

Various digital systems like SAHANA, DRR portal, BIPAD and many more exist for collecting disaster data and assisting disaster risk management in Nepal. However, they mostly operate in isolation and are not linked to the common national system, which is still under development. Disaster data is mostly used to report loss and damages and facilitate post-disaster response. The government-owned SAHANA System, BIPAD and DRR Portal are operational in disaster management, but their effectiveness in making forecasts and generating early warnings in realtime is still at infancy .

In this context, the Digital Samvad 2.0 “The Digitalisation of Disaster Risk Management in Nepal” aims to:

1. Map the evolution and current status of digital technologies within the domain of disaster risk management in Nepal.
2. Assess and understand the operational effectiveness and efficiency of these digital technologies in addressing the issues and challenges of disaster risk management practices in Nepal.
3. Pave out a way forward for the effective integration of digital technologies for disaster risk management in Nepal.
