The Armada Paintings Part 1/9 - The Story of the Armada

Описание к видео The Armada Paintings Part 1/9 - The Story of the Armada

Following the defeat of the Spanish Armada, Lord Howard of Effingham commissioned some tapestry weavers in Brussels to weave ten large tapestries to commemorate the victory. They hung in the House of Lords from the 1650s until they perished in the fire of 1834. When the new Victorian Palace was built, it was decided that the iconic Armada tapestries should be remembered in painting form. The commission was abandoned for 160 years, but Lord Williamson regenerated the idea in 2007. Watch this short film to discover how the long awaited Armada paintings were finally realised.
