Saving ancient history and native bush from wilding pines in the Marlborough Sounds

Описание к видео Saving ancient history and native bush from wilding pines in the Marlborough Sounds

The Marlborough Sounds Restoration Trust has been removing wilding conifers (aka wilding pines) from the hills all around the Marlborough Sounds, and Arapaoa Island, to prevent the richly diverse native bush cover becoming blanketed by wildings. Arapaoa Island has historical significance for Māori and is a highly visible sight for hundreds of thousands of passengers on inter-island ferries each year.

The Trust’s work has the support of local Iwi, landowners and the wider community, including the Interislander and others. Biosecurity New Zealand (MPI) has been proud to support the Trust alongside Marlborough District Council and Department of Conservation, through the National Wilding Conifer Control Programme.
