Dr. Christian Lindner, an internationally recognized philologist and investigator, meets with Kabbalist Dr. Michael Laitman to discuss the origins of anti-Semitism and the historical influence of Jews on the belief system of both the ancient and contemporary world.
The ancient world used to be tightly interconnected. The cradles of knowledge were unique and known worldwide. From this point, it is not surprising that Indian sources and Pythagorean teachings have a lot in common with Kabbalah. Let’s track the parallels.
Kabbalah first originated about 6,000 years ago. It was revealed by Adam (from Hebrew “man”) - the first man who discovered the higher level of reality and described it in his book Sefer Raziel HaMalakh (The Angel Raziel). The next significant revelation of Kabbalah happened in ancient Babylon atop of a deep crisis of human relationships caused by ego growth, well-known as the Tower of Babel.
Abraham was a Babylonian who realized that the human egoistic nature (the negative force) was evolving, and that the only way to learn how nature systematically worked and what it actually wanted from human beings was to establish a proper connection between people (the positive force), placing the positive force over the negative. Abraham spread his teachings to Babylonians, and from those who joined Him, established a group later called “Israel.”
The attainment and development of corrected human connections is the main aspect of the wisdom of Kabbalah. The two Temples that we know from history are the symbols of the successful establishment of that connection. However, as the human ego evolved, both Temples were ruined. Jews since became dispersed all over the world. Since that time, the wisdom of Kabbalah was hidden until the time when the great Kabbalist, the Ari (Rav Isaac Luria) rediscovered it in the 16th century and adapted it to the new generation.
Throughout Jewish historical development, the Jewish people were in touch with other nations. During both First and Second Temples, they shared their knowledge everywhere they lived. In Abraham’s time, Abraham sent some students to India to teach the wisdom of connection. That is why we can track similarities between Kabbalah and Indian beliefs. Pythagoras also learned this wisdom from Jews and gave it a new name: philosophy. Pythagoreans, similarly to Kabbalah, used numbers as the basis of the world and aimed for balanced connection between people in their concept of harmony.
Today, we have plenty of teachings coming from ancient times, which represent some parts of the universal wisdom taught by Abraham and put into the basis of the nation of Israel. However, because of being concealed for a long time, the deep sense of Kabbalah was lost, and most Jews themselves are unaware of it.
Nevertheless, the human ego continues growing, and now we face a new crisis, a new “Tower of Babel.” Therefore, Jews, as the ones who carried a method of connection throughout the centuries, need to reveal it again, so that humanity can start working both with positive and negative forces to recognize the higher system of nature. To the extent in which the Jews remain idle in their realization of the method of connection, they feel pressure from the nations of the world and experience rising anti-Semitic sentiment, crimes and threats.
Therefore, if Jews who have an inherent inclination to spirituality, connect (“love your friend as yourself”) and reveal the method of connection to humanity (be a “light unto nations”), we will all become similar to the integrated and interconnected system of nature and reveal harmony and eternity.
