The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Strategic Plan (2022-2025) recognizes the importance of tackling water-related issues to achieve zero hunger and to leave no-one behind. As WFP country teams work with governments, communities, and partners to build resilient food systems, the challenges of degraded ecosystems and climate change remain entrenched. This is especially true in arid and semi-arid areas, and where populations are primarily reliant on the natural resources found within the landscapes to meet their food needs or for their livelihoods.

WFP's IGNITE Innovation Hub for East Africa helps identify and scale innovative solutions in the region. The Hub nurtures and scales local, market-based innovations to increase food security, enable climate resilient communities and strengthen food systems in East Africa by leveraging WFP’s public and private partners, field experience and expertise. This includes innovations related to water for productive use.
