4 Most Forgotten American Cars Of The 80s!

Four of the most forgotten American cars of the 80s—vehicles that were built with unusual designs, strange partnerships, or just too much ambition. They came and went quickly, and today, most people have no idea they ever existed.

First up is the Zimmer Quicksilver, a bizarre-looking car from Florida that tried to mix classic luxury with futuristic styling. Based on a stretched Pontiac Fiero, it had a long nose, a 2.8-liter V6 engine, and was packed with leather and chrome. Only about 170 were made between 1986 and 1988. It looked like something from a sci-fi gangster film and cost more than a Corvette, but it faded away after the company went bankrupt.

Next is the ASC McLaren Capri, a convertible created through a surprising partnership between an engineer, a sunroof company, and an American racing shop. It started as a Mercury Capri but was transformed into a two-seater roadster with a sleek design and a 5.0-liter V8 engine. Between 1984 and 1986, fewer than 1,000 were made. Most people confuse it with the Mustang, but it was something completely different.

Then there’s the Chevrolet Citation X-11, a strange attempt by General Motors to turn a compact front-wheel-drive hatchback into a performance car. It had a V6 engine, a special suspension, and even a functional hood scoop at one point. It also raced in SCCA events and actually won. But the base Citation had so many quality problems that the X-11 never really stood a chance and was mostly forgotten when the line ended in 1985.

Last is the Chrysler Laser Turbo, a sporty hatchback filled with 1980s tech like a digital dash and a voice alert system. It shared parts with the Dodge Daytona but aimed for a more high-tech feel. With a turbocharged engine and optional five-speed manual, it was pretty quick. But the car only lasted three years and quietly disappeared.____
