Interested to learn more about our mountain lion surveys two of our Rogue Detection Teams just completed in Southern California?

Based in the arid & hot regions which included the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, & Palomar Mountain State Park, summer temps would have meant shorter days & very hot dogs. Attacking this project in winter allowed our teams to explore the canyons, ridges, & lonely, dusty trails & roads that the elusive mountain lion traverses without fear of overtaxing our K9 co-woofers.

☠️ To the sometimes gruesome discoveries, like deer kills, that surveying for these carnivores uncovers.

Thank you to the Cuyamaca Outdoor School for housing our detection teams at a closed camp during COVID times. We appreciated having a warm roof over our fuzzy heads to ward off chilly desert nights.

It's a three-year effort with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and we have been working with Research, Dr. Dellinger.

"CDFW wildlife biologist Justin Dellinger has a most unusual job -- since 2015, he’s been capturing and collaring mountain lions in California’s backcountry. Justin aims to achieve something unique, which is the first-of-its-kind comprehensive population assessment of California’s mountain lions."
