This is an attempt to help a new owner put the platen back in place on the KMM. The chrome wheel that engages with the line-advance mechanism needs to be fitted tightly in place, or it will seem -- at the other end -- that the platen is now too long. To fit that chrome wheel snugly, you need to disengage the little roller under the platen that engages with the ratchet. Once the left side of things is properly fitted, the platen will slide back into place.
