If, like me, you love big red tankers, then this one's for you. The Aframax-size STI Condotti is heavy as we catch her approaching Botany Bay. An escort of 4 tugs is waiting, and we hear the radio exchanges between the ship, Sydney VTS, the pilot vessel and the tugs. The radio calls are interesting, giving some insight into the operational processes behind bringing a big ship like this into port. If you're not interested in the radio conversations go straight to the 7min 41sec mark. I've actually left out a lot of the radio calls after this point because they were associated with my drone being spotted by the crew and the pilot notifying VTS and the tug crews chiming in and the Water Police being notified...blah blah blah🙄. I've made an extended version of this chase which I might share in the future. Suffice to say there was never any cause for the concerns raised, but the reaction typified the negative thinking around drones that is pervading the Australian public, driven largely by regulatory knee-jerk reactions. This issue aside, it was a rewarding chase - a good thing because I stayed away from chases for the following 3 months! Hope you enjoy it, don't forget to click 👍 and subscribe for more Ship Therapy!
