ජයසිකුරු මෙහෙයුම ආපසු හරවන්නට ආ කොටින්ට අමතක නොවන පාඩමක් | 55 Division Repels LTTE Attack (1997)

Operation Jayasikuru, meaning Victory Assured was launched by the Sri Lankan Military in May 1997 to completely regain the control of A9 road to be established as the Main Supply Route running from the South to the Jaffna Peninsula. The government troops failed to maintain the momentum despite having achieved early successes during the initial phase of the offensive. Taking this lapse to their advantage, LTTE retaliated with a huge striking force in the early hours on 10th June 1997 under the leadership of Karuna Amman. Defences of the 55th Divisional Headquarters quickly perished in the face of a fierce attack by LTTE. However, gallant troops under the leadership of Brigadier Shantha Kottegoda held the ground with courage until the arrival of reinforcements. Eventually, the terror attack has been repulsed causing heavy damage to the enemy.

ජයසිකුරු මෙහෙයුමේ නිරත භටපිරිස් වෙත LTTEයෙන් එල්ල වූ පළමු සංවිධානාත්මක ප්‍රතිප්‍රහාරය එල්ල වූයේ තාණ්ඩිකුලම්හි ස්ථාපිත කොට තිබූ 55 වන සේනාංක මූලස්ථානයටයි. සේනාංකාධිපති බ්‍රිගේඩියර් ශාන්ත කෝට්ටේගොඩ විසින් අණදුන් භටපිරිස් විසින් එකී ප්‍රහාරය ඉතා සර්ථකව මැඩලන ලද අතර ඒ වෙනුවෙන් මේජර් නන්දන සේනාධීර යටතේ වූ 10 වන ගලබා බලඇණියත්, මේජර් මනෝජ් පීර්සි විසින් අණදුන් 8 වන විජයබාහු බලඇණියත් සහායක භටපිරිස් වශයෙන් පැමිණ ලබාඩුන් සහාය ප්‍රශංසනීයයි. ඇඟ ලොමුදැගැන්වූ ක්‍රියාන්විතකය ඔබ නොඇසූ සවිස්තරාත්මක විග්‍රයයි මේ.
