Everybody agrees Dad is for life! Like a titan, a father protects his child from harm and fear. In a child’s heart, Dad is like a superhero!

Dad's for Life Soccer Team was officially launched at Dad's Day Out carnival held at the Singapore Sports Hub on June 19, 2016. Members of the Dad's for Life football team unveiled their jerseys in the presence of Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin and Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Transport Mrs Josephine Teo.

This ‘Dads’ squad is comprised of famous fathers namely ex-national soccer players such as Lionel Lewis, R. Suriamurthi, Lim Tong Hai, Zakaria Awang; even MPs Teo Ser Luck and Seah Kian Peng.

So what is the purpose of Dad’s for Life Soccer Team? Their mission – to take on the ambassadorial role and play against the Father’s Groups in companies and schools in friendly matches.

They are out to win friendships and not matches. Said Manger Collin Chee, “We want to learn from other Dads through sharing of experiences.”

Epoch Times spoke with Lim Tong Hai, a former defender of Singapore National Football Team and member of Dad's for Life Soccer Team.

1) Hi Tong Hai, what inspired you to join the Dad’s for Life Soccer Team?

I am Tong Hai. I am part of Dad's for Life Soccer Team
I got a call from Colin, and he asked whether I was interested to get involved in this Dad’s for Life Soccer Team, and I think why not?

Collin did a good job. He managed to get a lot of ex-national players as well as players from different walks of life.

What we are trying to do is to have a game once in a while, probably once in a month, to create awareness for this Dad’s for Life initiative. And I think it is an excellent idea.

2) How do you feel returning to soccer after so many years?

I have always been involved in soccer except that now, I have the chance to play with my ex-colleagues and teammates in this very meaningful event. And the good thing is, there is no competitiveness right now. It is all about having a lot of fun; friendship and experiences sharing of being a father.

3) Do you play soccer with your kids?

Yes, I used to with my son. But right now, I will probably play with my Dad’s for Life teammates or I would say, my ex-teammates.

4) How often do you play with your ex-teammates?

Probably once a fortnight, or once a month, because we are all busy with our schedules. Once we get back together, it is like back to the old times. There will be a lot of fun and sharing, and it is always good to catch up with the rest of the friends.

5) Which team are you supporting at Euro 2016?

No team in particular. The usual strong teams like Spain, even Germany, Italy and the host France; everybody stands a good chance.
