Maharashtra government has now decided to withdraw the General Consent clause for Central Bureau of Investigation, to probe any case in the state of Maharashtra. The premier agency will now be needing a nod from the state government if it wants to probe any case. The same decision has earlier been taken by the West Bengal and the Andhra Pradesh government.

The decision comes after the much-discussed Sushant Singh Rajput case and how both the Mumbai Police and Maharashtra government were heavily criticised for calling it a suicide even before the post mortem. Similar was the case with the Bhima Koregaon and the Palghar lynching case, due to which the government was criticised as to whether they pressurised the state investigation.
