The Corrotoman River is a tributary of the Rappahanock River located in Lancaster County, Virginia. The Corrotoman River is rich in cultural and historical significance as it was home to indigenous communities particularly the Powhatan people.
The river is comprised of two branches: the Eastern Branch and the Western Branch. The Western Branch includes the Merry Point Ferry found in Merry Point, Virginia, a part of the Northern Neck / Northern Neck Heritage Area.
The Merry Point Ferry is one of three operating ferries within the State of Virginia managed by the Virginia Department of Transportation. The other two ferries are the James-Scotland Ferry connecting James City County and Surry County, Virginia and the Sunnybank Ferry located in Northumberland County, Virginia.
