Situated just 24 km from Gangtok, Rumtek Monastery lies near the India-China border, making it a focal point of not only spiritual harmony but also geopolitical complexity. Its strategic location has made it a subject of territorial conflicts ⚔️ amidst the larger debate over Tibet's autonomy. We delve into how these tensions continue to affect the region today, while reflecting on the cultural importance of the monastery in preserving Tibetan Buddhist traditions.
But our adventure didn’t end there—what was supposed to be a quick return to Siliguri turned into an epic 8-hour ordeal 😨. Landslides, heavy rains 🌧️, and road closures 🚧 forced us to navigate treacherous roads as we braved nature’s fury. A journey that should have taken 3 hours stretched into a nerve-wracking 7-hour drive, testing our patience and endurance.
