Twenty musicians, singers and chorists from the Canadian Arabic Orchestra take the stage with Charbel Rouhana for a tribute to Sayyed Darwish in a modern-day rendition of his all-time favourites. Dubbed as the father of Modern Arabic Music with songs like “Zourouni”, “Salma Ya Salama”, “El Helwa Ahi” and “Ahou Da Elli Sar”, Sayyed Darwish is honoured in this performance almost 100 years after his passing.

Lebanese composer, singer and musician, Charbel Rouhana is one of the few masters who shaped the Arab lute (Oud) and its techniques. In 1990, he won the first prize of the Hirayama Competition in Japan for Best Composition entitled «Hymn of Peace». In the year 2000, he won the “Murex d’Or” as the Musician of the year. Rouhana has composed various compositions for the famous dance group “Caracalla” and has also accompanied the legendary Fairuz, Majida El Roumi, Julia Boutros, and Hariprasad Chaurasia in numerous performances. Charbel Rouhana established a new method in playing the oud. This method was published in seven volumes and was adopted by the National Conservatory of Music in Lebanon and the Faculty of Music in the Holy Spirit University, where he has been teaching since 1986.

The Canadian Arabic Orchestra is a not-for-profit organization committed to reviving fine Arabic music and to promoting multicultural understanding in Canada. Since its first concert of classical Arabic Music in 2014, the Orchestra has sought to maintain the cultural heritage in the hearts and minds of the Arab community in Canada and to present it to future generations. Also, the Orchestra seeks to engage with non-Arab communities in the Canadian cultural mosaic.
