If you look at the pictures you’ll see wide eyed kids wearing spiffy new clothes, brand new sneakers and carrying new backpacks.

Sadly, for thousands of South Florida parents, buying new clothes and school supplies is a considerable financial hardship.

Recently, for the fifth year in a row, Neighbors 4 Neighbors partnered with the Children's Services Council of Broward County to provide back to school supplies for close to 6,000 Broward County students identified as living in “unstable conditions.”

Parents lined up early for this annual Back to School event that gave away backpacks, school supplies, uniforms, name brand shoes and new books. In addition, Memorial Healthcare provided immunizations and other health services on site for free.

Partners included the School Board, the Broward Education Foundation; Neighbors 4 Neighbors; COMCAST; Sun-Sentinel; In Jacob’s Shoes; Running With Sole; Hands On Broward; BSO; Carlyn Uniforms; Memorial HealthCare System; and Broward’s Department of Health.

“It’s always wonderful to know that these kids will start school with the tools they need to succeed,” said Lynne Cameron, Executive Director, Neighbors 4 Neighbors. “The smiles on their faces says it all,” she added.

Note: Similar "backpack" giveaway events were held throughout all of South Florida. We thank all the agencies that participated in helping the students.
