What is a dental business associate agreement? Hi, this is Dan Goldstein, I'm President of Page 1 Solutions and I get questions about dental associate business agreements frequently. And the reason is because HIPAA, which is a federal law to maintain the privacy of patients, requires that all dentists and other healthcare professionals get any vendor who they work with to sign an agreement that ensures that they're going to keep the data that they obtained from the dentist patients secure, and not share it with people who are not authorized to share it. It's pretty straightforward. So, many of our clients will have Page 1 sign dental business associate agreements. And it's simply an assurance that Page 1 gives that we won't share that information and will protect any information that we have. Now, I will tell you that very rarely does really confidential information get posted on a dental website, but it could be posted. I mean for example you could have a consumer who puts in information about a specific procedure that they've had in the past and they want to have corrected, or a procedure that they're interested in having now. That potentially could fall under the terms of HIPAA and it is required that that information be maintained in a private way. One of the ways that were able to do that is by creating secure online web forms so that when a consumer actually fills out that information, it goes to the client which is the plastic surgery practice, or the dental practice, or ophthalmology practice. It goes to that client in a an encrypted format and the client has to login to access it. We only do that if the client requests it, but it is a very common and easily done process.
