Never judge a man, by his clothes. And that old proverb came true, in a small town in Karnataka last week. RL Kempegowda of Chikkasandra and his friends, were window-shopping at a car showroom in Tumakuru, last Friday. The farmer, was keen to book an SUV for himself, and was looking, at various models. But, arrogant salesmen taunted the group, which was dressed in simple clothes. One snobbish executive, told the farmer, that he probably did not have even ten rupees in his pocket, let alone 10 lakh, which was the price of the SUV. Little did the cocky executives know, what would happen next. Kempegowda returned, 30 minutes later. This time, he had 10 lakhs in his humble pocket. And whatsmore, Kempegowda insisted, that since he was paying cash, the car be delivered the very same day. But when the sheepish staff said they could not deliver it since it was a weekend, Kempegowda and his friends decided, that enough was enough. They called the police and refused to leave the showroom, till the cops begged them to go home. Videos of the incident went viral. But Kempegowda was not done. He demanded a written apology from the salesmen, for insulting him and his friends. If they refused, he said he would launch a protest, right outside the shop. The humble farmer's anger did not go unnoticed. Even by Anand Mahindra himself - the maker of the SUV, that Kempegowda was keen to buy. Quoting a tweet of Mahindra & Mahindra's CEO, Vijay Nakra, Anand Mahindra wrote - what happened, will be addressed urgently.
