Crinan Wood, one of the last remaining pockets of the incredible rainforest that once covered large part of the West Coast of Scotland (and Europe's Atlantic coast). Also referred to as North Atlantic Rainforest and Temperate Rainforest, it's an incredibly biodiverse ecosystem full of unique lichens, fungi and plants and a home to many species of birds and mammals.
This video was filmed on the morning of 16th May 2025 as a bit of a personal project. I tried to capture some of the magic of this unique woodland that helped me understand how rich and diverse the West Coast of Scotland could be if we gave it a chance to recover. It's one of these places that made me aware of how much we're missing in Scotland while we continue to romanticise the barren hills, pastures and swathes of heather - all of which are products of human intervention.

Crinan Wood, with it's trees, lichens and ferns, filled with bird song, is a great reminder that life finds a way to thrive in this part of the world if we let it. Often the difference is easy to spot even with your eyes closed. Nature is rarely silent.
