How to get to the Galapagos Islands | Travel 2021 - Airports | flights| Prices

To get to the Galápagos Islands you need to fly out from mainland Ecuador, there are two main airlines Latam and Avianca, where you can get a flight from Quito or Guayaquil (Travel Ecuador) to San Cristobal or Baltra which is a small island just off Santa Cruz.

From Quito to the Galapagos Islands is about 3.5 hours flight with a stop in Guayaquil usually and from Guayaquil to the Galapagos is about 2h and doesn’t matter if you are going to Baltra or San Cristobal, there is no difference between them, almost same time.

A good thing to mention is you can land on one island and depart from another because in this way you optimize the journeys among Islands, for example, we landed in Baltra and our flight back was from San Cristobal.

We preferred to land in Baltra because in Baltra there is nothing to see, so you have to go to Santa Cruz or get a cruise from Baltra. From Baltra to Santa Cruz is about 1,5 hours and you have to get a bus, ferry, bus or taxi, which we explained in the video about things to do in Santa Cruz. On the other hand, the airport of San Cristobal Galapagos is 10 min walking from town or 3 min by taxi, which means less trouble and perfect to finish the trip.

Prices: Prices can be a little bit tricky because the prices for locals are different from the prices for foreigners, but if you go through google flights, for example, it is not explicit which one is for the foreigners. So if you are going to buy Latam tickets the foreigner's ticket is Top, and if you are going to buy Avianca tickets the foreigner's ticket is L.

If by accident you buy a ticket flight that’s supposed to be for locals, at the airport they can charge you $150 + IVA. I read on Tripadvisor that some people bought tickets for locals by accident and at the airport, they didn’t charge the fee, or they charged only once, not a fee per ticket.
