Build your own AI-powered ESP32 robot using FreeRTOS and Wi-Fi control. In this project, I’ll show you step by step how to assemble, wire, and program an ESP32-based desk robot that can display facial expressions, balance using an MPU6050 sensor, and run multiple tasks with real-time scheduling.
This robot, called DLR (Dumb Little Robot), is part of my bigger Deskbot series — small, smart robots that live on your desk. With FreeRTOS, the ESP32 can handle tasks like motion sensing, OLED display updates, and Wi-Fi commands all at the same time.
I’ve also added a basic AI control system so the robot can react to inputs, show emotions like Vector or Cozmo, and eventually support SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) and swarm robotics.
