STORYLINE:
Dozens of Hamas militants marched in Gaza City in a show of force as the militant group prepares to mark it’s 35th anniversary.

The militants held their weapons aloft and raised their Islamic movement’s green banners, as well as Palestinian flags.

Some of them wore face-covering masks.

Some militants also held the logo of the Lions’ Den, a group of gunmen based in the Israeli-occupied West Bank that is responsible for recent fatal attacks against Israel.

Since taking over Gaza by force in 2007, Hamas has invested heavily in upgrading its arsenal, including digging tunnels into Israel and improving rocket capabilities.

Critics say the group diverts money towards its administration and military wing, while the international community and the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority pay for most of health, education, social and other services for Gaza’s 2.3 million residents.

While Gazans suffer under the blockade, repeated wars with Israel, and widespread corruption among Hamas, the group’s top leaders have reallocated funds to enjoy luxury life in other middle eastern countries.
