Chowman, one of Kolkata’s most iconic Chinese restaurants, has finally made its way to Bangalore, bringing with it the authentic flavors that made it a household name. Unlike the usual Indo-Chinese joints, Chowman stands out for its fine balance of authenticity, quality, and variety.
On our visit, we started with their Seafood Soup, a wholesome bowl packed with prawn, squid, and fish — warm, comforting, and full of depth.
The Steamed Chicken with Exotic Vegetables was another highlight, featuring nearly ten different veggies — zucchini, green, red, and yellow peppers, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, shiitake mushrooms, and more — all tossed in a light yet flavorful garlic sauce that kept the chicken juicy and tender.
But the real showstopper was the Steamed Bhetki Fish with Ginger and Scallions 🐟. This delicate, melt-in-the-mouth preparation is something you rarely find in Bangalore. It’s subtle, aromatic, and truly a star dish that reflects Chowman’s commitment to authentic Chinese cooking.
We also tried the Meifoon Noodles, thin and silky like vermicelli, perfectly paired with Wok-Fried Squid in Black Bean Sauce and Vegetable Fried Rice. The flavors worked beautifully together, giving us that classic Chowman experience that Kolkata foodies have raved about for years.
If you’re in Bangalore and craving authentic Chinese (Hakka Chinese or Indian Chinese) that goes beyond the standard fare, Chowman is a must-visit.
