Food poisoning is an illness caused by consuming contaminated food. It can be caused by either bacteria such as Salmonella or E. coli or viruses like norovirus.

The symptoms appear within hours to a few days after eating the food. They include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps.
The severity can vary from a mild case resolving on its own, or severe which requires medical attention, especially in young children, elderly and individuals with low immunity.

Prevention of food poisoning includes cooking meats thoroughly, washing fruits and vegetables, avoiding cross-contamination by using separate cutting boards for raw meat and vegetables. Also, ensuring proper food storage and washing hands before preparing or eating food.

Treatment focuses on well hydration but in severe cases you might need urgent medical attention with IV fluids and Antibiotics.
