FCCJ Alma Mater (1992)

In honor of the College's 25th anniversary in 1991, FCCJ held a songwriting contest to create a new fight song and alma mater. The winning alma mater, with lyrics penned by Open Campus project coordinator Carole Varney and set to the "Ode to Joy" from Beethoven's 9th Symphony, was performed at the Founders' Day celebration hosted at North Campus in April of 1992. At the end of the performance, College President Chuck Spence can be heard commenting on his enjoyment of the piece, which he was hearing for the first time.

Shining star, above the rest;
Florida's First Cost gate to knowledge
Challenge us to be our best.

Hoping, dreaming and believing-
We aspire to reach new heights;
Knowledge, friendship, both achieving,
High-held goals, within our sights.
