Police Bodycam Captures Massive Drug Bust: 12 Arrests And Seizure Of Firearms
On July 25-26, 2022, the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Gang and Drug Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Bellingham Resident Office concluded a joint drug investigation involving a Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO) that was trafficking illegal drugs, specifically fentanyl powder, into the Pacific Northwest (primarily Whatcom County Washington).
Detectives and Agents coordinated the execution of 12 federal search warrants (one location in California with the assistance of DEA Fresno, and 11 locations in Washington) which resulted in the arrests of 12 subjects, two federally indicted with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of Washington, and nine subjects on State drug charges with the Whatcom County Prosecutor’s Office. One additional subject was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm.
This takedown resulted in the seizure of approximately 34 firearms, 50,000 fentanyl pills, seven kilograms of fentanyl powder, two pounds of methamphetamine, three ounces of cocaine, one vehicle, and $58,000 US Currency. These weights and totals are preliminary. Leading up to this takedown, numerous successful investigative methods were used, including a traffic stop that led to the seizure of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo stated, “This investigation, the resulting arrests and the seizure of large quantities of fentanyl, methamphetamine and firearms are demonstrative of the wide-scale availability of these deadly drugs in our community; the level of organization involved in the criminal enterprises that deal in them and the potential for violence. We will continue to work in coordination with our local, state and federal partners to try and eradicate this menace and hold those who profit in this illicit business accountable before the law.”
This takedown was made possible by collaborative efforts between the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, Bellingham Police Department, Mount Vernon Police Department - WA, Ferndale Police Department, Skagit County Interlocal Drug Enforcement Unit, Snohomish Regional Drug Task Force, BIA, HSI, CBP, Whatcom County Health Department, and the United States Attorneys Office."
