Ruotsin valtakunnan alaisessa Suomessa toimi 1600- luvulta aina 1800-luvun alun vuosikymmenille asti pyövelin ammattiryhmä. Tämä kalmankatuinen virkamiehistö oli tarpeellinen osa kuninkaan oikeutta ja tuomioiden jakoa. Miten tähän ammattiin päädyttiin ja millaista koulutusta henkilöltä vaadittiin?
