How I created these seasonal inspired costumes for short film, using entirely second hand materials.
Sewing VLOG, thrift-flipping for the screen and some behind the scenes of being on a film set in the middle of the woods...

I didn't go into detail the inspiration behind the designs, but the director had vision boards and we had several discussions about what these costumes should convey. Overall we wanted to create pieces that were ethereal, wispy and full of organic movement. Both original dresses were salvaged from an old theatre that was closing down! I have a soft spot for worn or damaged clothing so of course I rescued these beauties and I'm glad I could give them the spotlight they deserve.
You might have noticed I also painted some fabric flowers as well as the leaves and added those to 'summer' as well as some gold ribbons to tie the costumes together a little better. As for 'Autumn', I utilised the areas in which the dress had holes or had torn and added gold leaves as if they were growing out of the damages. I didn't explain this in the video but it's a little detail I thought worth mentioning!
