If you were wondering what that rather handsome, exotic looking plant was that suddenly appeared in your garden, then three weeks later realised that a large proportion of that garden was now being established by the same plant then you have every right to be worried! On the face of it Clerodendrum bungei is an attractive, cold-hardy tropical effect species capable of growing up to 2.5 metres in height. It has glossy heart-shapes leaves and the corymb blooms are a bold pink colour.

However it is noted for its suckering habit and rapid growth which allow it to form large spreading colonies where they are not wanted. Also the flowers stink! We have inherited it in our garden and in my opinion it is as useful as Japanese Knot weed (Ok, it not as bad as that). So this video is about a differing of opinions. Lorna loves it and I hate it and say it need to be removed and destroyed as it is rampaging through the borders unchecked. Let us know what you think in the comments.
