GC x GC (or GC x GC x MS) separates about 20X more chemical compounds than conventional 1D GC with no run-time penalty, improves sensitivity by about 5X, and generates chromatograms far easier to interpret than those generated by 1D GC or 1D GCMS. In spite of its striking performance, GC x GC has been slow to catch on. Why? The adoption of any new analytical technology is inherently slow due to a variety of factors. This entertaining talk will demonstrate that GC x GC is easy to understand, revolutionizes the practice of gas chromatography, solves a host of problems that simply cannot be solved any other way, and reveals that our world is vastly more complex, chemically speaking, than we have realized heretofore.
