4th Grade Math 13.5, Word Problem Solving, Area When Another Shape is Inside (Inscribed figures)

We can find the area of a figure that has another figure inside of it. The inside figure is actually called an inscribed figure. We can find the area of an entire rectangle and subtract the area of a smaller inside shape to find their difference. The area of a rectangle can be found using the area formula, A = b X h, area is equal to the base times the height. The area of a square can be found using the formula, A = s X s, area is equal to a side times a side. Area is the number of square units needed to cover the surface of a figure without gaps or overlaps. Perimeter is the distance around the outside edge of a figure. We discuss how to solve six different word problems involving area with another shape inside.
