Interesting Faction Selection Methods for Classic Dune

Описание к видео Interesting Faction Selection Methods for Classic Dune

With 12 factions in the game now that there are 3 expansions, there are a lot of new ways you can choose who plays which faction. Let me know if you try any of these methods and how they went, or if you have any ideas for faction selection methods.

Here is a short writeup for each method if you need to reference them easily.

Intrigue: Deal each player 2 factions to choose from.

Confluence: Separate the 6 Base Game and 6 Expansion factions, then deal each player one of each type to choose from.

Privileged: Take a number of random factions equal to the number of players +1 (7 factions in a 6 player game). In a randomly determined order, players will look at the factions available, and choose one to play. The last player only has 2 factions to choose from. This method can be used to augment other methods which do not specify a way to distribute the factions to each player.

Mind Killer: In a random order, each player chooses a faction to remove from the pool of factions in the game. The remaining 6 factions are distributed to the players. Can be augmented with the Privileged method.

Golden Path: In a random order, each player chooses a faction to add to the pool of factions in the game. The factions chosen are distributed to the players. Can be augmented with the Privileged method.

Wormsign: In a random order, each player draws a random faction and then must choose to either include it or remove it from the pool. Repeat until you have 6 included factions or 6 removed factions.

Olive Branch: Determine a first player. That player chooses any faction and offers it to any other player without a faction. That player can accept the faction, or reject it. If the faction is rejected, the player who offered it must play as that faction. When a faction is rejected, the player who was offered a faction takes a turn and offers a faction of their choice to someone else. If the faction was accepted, the player who offered a faction goes again.

Political Tripod: Determine a first player. That player takes a random faction and must assign it to another player who does not have a faction. The player who was most recently assigned a faction goes next and draws a random faction to assign to another player who does not have one.
